I am a freelancer. I do more than the average employee. I am entitled to a rate in proportion to what I can offer and thereafter achieve. I deserve no less.
I am a freelancer, not because I work for free, but because I am free to choose who to work with. I will not allow myself to be conned into giving free samples just to try to convince clients of my worth.
I am a businessman; I run my own business. For this reason, I set my own prices, without prejudice to negotiations and/or later revisions to the work.
I know I am a better worker, not because I earn more than a regular employee, but because I face more challenges. I will love myself more, and love my work more.
I will not give in to depression. I will not let rejection leave me dejected, nor will I be discouraged by the low-paying jobs. I will not dwell on the crimes of deceitful clients, nor will I let the uncertain economy derail my self-confidence.
I will not give in to arrogance. I am not an island, as no man ever is. I will participate in activities pertaining to my expertise, and share to others what I know.
I will not give in to laziness. I am a creature of habit and challenge, and will endeavor to find ways to be more creative, hone my talents, and market my service even in lean times.
I recognize the importance of inspiration in my work, and acknowledge the necessity for a comfortable and conducive working environment. I will not sacrifice my family, my health nor my peace of mind for a job that will potentially stifle my creativity.
I believe that I am myself a work in progress. I will strive to keep an open mind to new technologies, and master them when I can. Because I know I can learn new things, I know I can improve.
I accept that no two freelancers are the same. I will not compare the work or rates of others to that of my own. I will simply work to the best of my ability, and let my accomplishments speak for themselves.
